The credibility of a writer depends heavily on how he presents what he is trying to say. When a content writer writes for a blog, he should be able to communicate with the reader rather than preach him. That’s one of the most common mistakes a content writer tends to make both in copywriting and blogging. The norms of formal grammar and language can be twisted and made more interesting but they should not be downright ignored.
That is what the problem with online content writing these days is. People who write for blogs think that preaching and downright formality is a good thing and those who write naturally go overboard with the lack of grammar and formal sentences, which really make the whole, write up a complete eye sore.
Basic grammatical mistakes are what can ruin an article and so are over the top grammatical perfections. Some of the common mistakes bloggers make or have been observed are listed underneath as follows:
- Different than Vs. Different from: The use of the word than after different is a big grammatical error and one that a lot of people make. But almost all the time, this one gives the reader a slip and goes unnoticed. This should be avoided as it is pretty simple English and hampers the quality of the write up.
- Me, Myself & I: People who are bloggers or blog writers often mess this one most times. Quiet often, people use I instead of me and that causes an error in the whole sentence. They might do so because ‘I’ sounds more proper and rather stilted, but that’s not the case. In most cases, ‘me’ is going to construct the sentence better. So don’t be afraid to use it.
- Improper use of the Apostrophe: There is a reason we use apostrophes. The two most basic ones are that it is used for contractions, i.e., don’t for do not. The other is to show possession, like, this blog belongs to Frank, so we write, and this is Frank’s blog. If these are not the cases that are occurring on what you are working on, avoid using the apostrophe.
- Loose Vs Lose: Another of the very common mistakes writers tend to confuse them with. They get confused which to use in context of the sentence. Loose and Lose are two different words. And when using them, keeping an eye on the context is extremely important to write proper English.
- Could of, would of, and should of: This is again one of the more common mistakes which are witnessed amongst online writers. Somehow, people overlook the difference it creates when we write all the three and jumble them up pretty badly. Another easy mistake which can be avoided completely if we pay attention to detail and don’t just keep on writing without even looking up at the screen!!
